Govt prepares livestock recovery after Sumatra disasters

The Ministry of Agriculture has prepared a post-disaster recovery program for the livestock sector following recent floods and landslides in several parts of Sumatra.

"We are identifying all affected livestock, including chickens, cattle, and goats. For the livestock sector, we have a post-disaster recovery program to provide assistance," Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono said in a statement

He said the government is committed to addressing the disaster's impact on livestock in Sumatra, starting with comprehensive data collection to ensure sustainable recovery for affected farmers.

Sudaryono added that the ministry is identifying all types of affected livestock to ensure assistance matches conditions on the ground and helps prevent further losses in severely impacted areas.

He said aid distribution to affected livestock farmers will begin once the emergency response phase is fully completed.

According to preliminary ministry data released on December 31, around 779,000 livestock animals were affected by floods and landslides that hit Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra in November.
