Minister stresses patriotism for TNI troops at RI-Timor-Leste border

Defense Minister Sjafrie Samsoeddin stressed that Indonesian Military personnel stationed along the Indonesia-Timor-Leste border must uphold strong patriotism, supported by physical and mental readiness as well as sincere dedication to the community.

“Patriotism is not merely spoken, but must be deeply embedded in the soul and body of every soldier, supported by excellent physical and mental preparedness,” Samsoeddin said while addressing troops in Biinmaffo, North Central Timor District.

The minister delivered the remarks during a briefing to personnel of the Territorial Development Infantry Battalion 877/Biinmaffo (Yonif TP 877/Biinmaffo).

Addressing soldiers of Yonif TP 877/Biinmaffo, Samsoeddin expressed his appreciation for the enthusiasm of young troops who, with full awareness, are prepared to defend the nation and the state.

He emphasized that military service requires dedication, discipline, and readiness to face various challenges, particularly in border areas.

Samsoeddin noted that soldiers serving along the border are the frontline guardians of national sovereignty.

According to him, the training, readiness, and deployment of troops constitute a major responsibility in safeguarding the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

The defense minister also reminded that the Indonesian Military is a people’s army that must remain close to the community and deliver tangible benefits.

Soldiers originate from the people and are funded by the people, he said, therefore their service must be fully devoted to public interests without discrimination based on ethnicity, religion, or background.

“The honor of the Indonesian Military (TNI) must always be upheld, because public trust is the main foundation of its strength and dignity,” he added.
