Police swarm London Bridge station as passengers 'evacuated' over 'suspicious man'

Police have swarmed London Bridge Tube station following reports passengers were evacuated from a number of platforms. British Transport Police said they were called to reports of a man "behaving suspiciously" on a train from St Albans.

Thameslink on X tweeted: "The police are dealing an incident at London Bridge. This has recently happened and we are working on gathering more information for you."

An X user has said an incident is ongoing at the Tube station with people evacuating after police arrived. They tweeted: "Something going on at London Bridge. Lots of police and people leaving in hurry from platform 6/7." Another said: "Nobody is being allowed on to trains at London Bridge station . Police and transport staff have held back the crowds due to an unspecified incident".

A British Transport Police spokesman revealed to the Daily Star: "Officers were called at around 6.30pm today (3 November) to reports of a man behaving suspiciously on a train from St Albans.

"The train was stopped at London Bridge while officers carried out a full search of the train and platform as a precaution.

"No one matching the description was found and while officers are satisfied there is no risk to the public, CCTV enquiries are ongoing."

Meanwhile, Thameslink on X issued an update stating police have confirmed it is safe to travel through London Bridge. "Some service changes have been put in place which means your train may no longer call at your destination," they added.

"We are aware that London Bridge station was evacuated for a short period of time. We apologise for any worry caused to customers and confirm that the station has re-opened for safe travel through this station.

"Some trains may be delayed or their calling pattern altered so please check journey planners or station information boards for updated platform and train information."

It comes as cops are probing a potential link between the stabbing of a 14-year-old boy on Friday and the Huntingdon train stabbings suspect, Cambridgeshire Police said.

The suspect Anthony Williams was charged over a mass stabbing on a busy train in Cambridgeshire and a separate attack at a London station earlier that day has been remanded in custody.

Cambridgeshire Police said three knife-related incidents have been linked to the Huntingdon train attack suspect happened on Friday and Saturday.

In a statement, the force said: “We are aware of three incidents that occurred in Peterborough on Friday evening (October 31) and Saturday morning (November 1). The first incident of a man with a knife at a barbers in Fletton happened at 7.25pm on Friday but was reported to us at 9.10pm – two hours after the incident occurred.

“At the time of reporting the man was no longer there and had not returned, so we did not send officers, but a crime was raised. The second incident was reported to us at 9.25am on Saturday again by the barbers in Fletton while the man was still at the scene. Officers were deployed to the location and arrived within 18 minutes. Upon searching the area, officers were unable to locate the man or identify him and a crime was raised.

“There was also a third incident that police also believe may be linked which also happened on Friday 31 October at 7.10pm, where a 14-year-old was stabbed by a man with a knife in the city centre. They were taken to Peterborough City Hospital with minor injuries and were later discharged.

“The offender had left the scene when the call was made and despite a search of the area by officers and a police dog, the offender was not identified. A crime was raised and an investigation commenced, with scenes of crime attending.

“We are currently reviewing all incidents in the timeframe to understand whether there were any further potential offences. British Transport Police retain primacy for the overall investigation, which will include these three incidents. We voluntarily referred ourselves to the IOPC for independent scrutiny of these incidents, as is standard practice in these cases.”
