Elon Musk sues Apple and OpenAI over AI competition

Elon Musk, through his companies xAI and X Corp., has launched an antitrust lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI in a Texas federal court.

The lawsuit alleges that Apple and OpenAI are colluding to stifle competition in the artificial intelligence market, specifically by unfairly favouring ChatGPT in the iPhone's app store rankings.

Musk's complaint claims Apple views AI as an "existential threat" to its iPhone dominance and is using the partnership to protect its market position.

The legal action seeks monetary damages and a court order to prevent the alleged illegal tactics, following Musk's earlier accusations that Apple rigged the system against competitors like his Grok chatbot.

OpenAI has dismissed the lawsuit as part of Mr Musk's "ongoing pattern of harassment", while Apple has not yet commented on the allegations.
