Paul Scholes urges Jack Grealish to join Premier League club after Man City snub

Paul Scholes has tipped Jack Grealish to move to another Premier League club as his future at Manchester City looks increasingly uncertain.

Grealish, 29, did not travel with his Man City teammates for their final game of the season against Fulham on Sunday.

The England star has struggled for game-time throughout the season, scoring just one goal in the Premier League.

Grealish was an unused substitute in Manchester City’s FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace earlier this month and was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the upcoming England games.

Asked about Grealish’s absence before Man City faced Fulham at Craven Cottage, Pep Guardiola simply said it was a ‘selection’ decision.

Manchester United legend Scholes believes it is ‘best for both parties’ if Grealish leaves Manchester City this summer and says he should ‘consider’ a move back to Aston Villa.

Grealish made his name at boyhood club Villa before Man City spent £100m to sign him from the Midlands club.

The attacker has become a Premier League and Champions League winner at the Etihad Stadium but, in terms of individual performance, has failed to hit the heights he reached at Aston Villa

‘I think the fact that Jack Grealish didn’t come off the bench in the FA Cup final showed that it’s time for him to go,’ Scholes told TNT Sports.

‘He needs to get away and re-energise his career. We all know what a good footballer he can be, but for the last couple of years, it’s been up and down.

‘Watching the young lad (Claudio Echeverri) coming on in the final ahead of him would’ve been a real kick in the teeth for Grealish, that would’ve hurt him.

‘I think it’s best for both parties for him to leave the club. Why should he not consider going back to Aston Villa?’

England legend Alan Shearer is also of the opinion that Grealish should leave Manchester City this summer and believes Guardiola is ‘done’ with the £100m signing.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Shearer said: ‘His time is up at Man City. He has to leave.

‘For Pep Guardiola to bring on a debutant, a young boy, and Gundogan rather than Jack Grealish when Man City are desperate for a goal… his time is up.

‘He’s done at Man City, he has to leave. For whatever reason Pep is done with him, he doesn’t like him. His time is up, it really is.’

Grealish could of course choose to leave the Premier League entirely and rebuild his career elsewhere.

Asked about Grealish following Man City’s victory over Fulham, which clinched the club’s Champions League qualification, Guardiola said: ‘Don’t ask me about Jack.

‘Who said I’m not happy with Jack? Rico [Lewis] was not selected, [James] McAtee was exceptional against Aston Villa and Wolves – why not ask me about McAtee? It’s not personal.

‘I have 24 players, I had to get rid of six players last game and five players today because [Mateo] Kovacic got sent off.

‘I treat Jack like I think of [Abdukodir] Khusanov, McAtee and all the players who have not been but you say I’m selecting we are in trouble?

‘It’s not about that. I have 24 players, I have to get rid of five players because Kovacic was sent off in the last game.

‘I’m thinking of Jack and Khusanov and McAtee. It’s nothing personal with Jack. I’m the person who fought for him to come here and the person who fought for him to stay here this season and the next season.

‘I’m the one who said I want Jack Grealish. Now he didn’t come because he didn’t come, but not something else. What happens in the future is a job for Txiki [Begiristain], Hugo and the agents.’
